The Wonder Wasp is John Tanaka's F-Zero machine. It was originally a hobby project that was intended for recreational use. However, when Jody Summer began racing, John Tanaka applied heavy modifications to the machine to make it fit for the races. Although it being a homemade machine has brought doubts, John Tanaka used his experience as the Galactic Space Federation's mechanic and was very thorough about what parts he used. The result is a small lightweight machine capable of powerful boosts, but its body and grip are below-average.

However, when he heard that Jody Summer, the girl of his dreams, was participating in the F-Zero races, he undertook massive customization on his homemade machine. Some may doubt the quality of a homebuilt machine, but there's no reason to--as the mechanic of the Galactic Space Federation, Tanaka was a stickler about every last part that went into the Wonder Wasp. It's truly a machine built with an artisan's spirit. The Wonder Wasp's lightweight construction and rapid-fire energy bursts are its biggest weapons.|
