FZFW:Silver Neelsen (Anime)
- This article is about the Anime Universe Silver Neelsen. For the Main Universe character with the same name, see Silver Neelsen.
Silver Neelsen is the pilot of the Night Thunder. As a pilot with decades of experience, he has the most F-Zero Grand Prix entries.[1] His longtime friend and rival is Anthony Ropkin.[1]
History
F-Zero Farukon Densetsu (Anime)
Pre-2132
Silver Neelsen (presumably in his 20s) was present during the first F-Zero Grand Prix, according to a photo presented in a Bart's F-Zero Classroom segment. In the photo, he can be seen along with Anthony Ropkin, Mr. Zero, an unknown Captain Falcon, and an unknown Black Shadow.
2132
70 years before 2202, Silver Neelsen had a rival by the name of Anthony Ropkin.[1] Though Silver had won races in the past, he could never beat Anthony.[1] Silver and Anthony had made a promise, at some point, to race each other.[1] However, Silver had crashed out during a practice lap before the actual race began.[1] He was tended to in an ambulance, desperate to join the race, but was told that it had already begun and he could not participate in his condition.[1]
Anthony, who had been looking for Neelsen during the race, ended up in a fiery accident on the track, having crashed his machine on the second lap.[1] He was placed in coldsleep, and would awaken 70 years later.[1]
2202
Now as a 97 year old elderly man,[1] Silver Neelsen was competing in his 7,776th F-Zero race,[1] but collided with Jack Levin's Astro Robin.[1] After a brief confrontation, Neelsen told Jack to meet him at the race track later on, but also stated he knew the reason why Jack had lost.[1] Jack, taking Neelsen up on his offer after some consideration, endured several kinds of training sessions with Neelsen.[1] Eventually, Neelsen explained his own motivation for continuing to race, revealing he had lost his rival on the track 70 years ago.[1] But as he had finished his recollection, he caught sight of Anthony on the TV, who had been celebrating a recent victory.[1]
Later on, Neelsen and Anthony met up as the sun set, and they caught up on old times.[1] Anthony revealed that "someone" had taken an interest in him after his accident, thus placing him in coldsleep.[1] Silver, curious to know why his rival had never contacted him this entire time, was met with Anthony's response of "70 years passed. I didn't want to find you until I improved my skill."[1] Deciding to make up for their lost promise race in the past, the two joined a race later on, alongside Jack Levin and Ryu Suzaku.[1]
Neelsen had told Jack that the race would be his own last race, but upon tying for third place with Anthony, and being swarmed by fangirls, Neelsen changed his mind about retirement. [1]
F-Zero GP Legend (GBA game)
He is a playable character with his machine, the Night Thunder. He is not featured in the Story Mode, however.
F-Zero Climax
F-Zero Climax |
---|
Age: 98
Silver Neelsen (JP): F-ZERO最多出場記録保持者。 「鉄人シルバー」と呼ばれているが、ここ数年は勝利に見放されている。 他のパイロットからは口うるさい老人だとけむたがられているが、キャプテンファルコンは彼のことを尊敬している。 |
(DeepL Translation): He holds the record for the most amount of F-Zero entries. He is called "Iron Man Silver," but has not been able to win races in the past few years. He is seen as a nagging old man by other pilots, but Captain Falcon has respect for him. |
Note: F-Zero Climax lists his age as 98, but this contradicts the anime's given age of 97. As Climax has no exact timeline placement, and due to a ton of inconsistencies, this may have been an oversight, or a result of borrowing elements from GX.

Trivia
- The aged photo of young Silver Neelsen with Anthony, Mr. Zero, a Captain Falcon, and a Black Shadow raises several questions in the anime's lore. It is not known if the Black Shadow in the photo with young Silver Neelsen is the same Black Shadow acting in the 2200s. The Captain Falcon in the photo meanwhile does not appear to be Andy Summer, having a much slimmer facial profile, and is likely one of the few to hold the title prior to Summer. Mr. Zero's presence in the photo is pointed out by Bart during a Classroom segment, who then brings his age into question, but ultimately leaves it unanswered. Bart also states that he remembers the first Grand Prix.
- Since F-Zero Climax is a game with many oddities in pilot profiles and timeline placement (and some info being borrowed from F-Zero GX for some reason, despite being separate entire universes), it is not known why F-Zero Climax uses Main Universe Silver Neelsen's age from F-Zero GX instead of Anime Universe Silver Neelsen's actual given age of 97 from the year 2202.
- Although F-Zero Climax states that Silver Neelsen hasn't won races in recent years, he has won races before in his younger years.
- In the anime, he states that he never won against Anthony in the past, but still won other races.[1]
