History

F-Zero Farukon Densetsu (Anime)

2201

Baba had been an informant for Dark Million, providing them with information about the race on Clifoto, as well as who was participating during Lap 3.[1] On the track, he had assumed Ryu Suzaku would be piloting the Dragon Bird, but it was the latest recruit of the Elite Mobile Task Force, Lucy Liberty, instead.[1] After the Iron Tiger and Lucy-driven Dragon Bird clashed against each other on the track, Ryu Suzaku arrived in Jack Levin's Astro Robin to help after Lucy lost control of the Dragon Bird.[1]

Baba left the scene and later reported his findings to Zoda in person. Zoda, upon glancing over to his Death Anchor, noticed a warning light, to which he questioned. Baba stated he needed spare parts for the machine, before Zoda fired his gun at a Dark Soldier, leaving Baba with extra parts to work with.[1]

2202

At some point in the year 2202, Baba had heard word of Jody Summer and Ryu Suzaku's search for Andy Summer's missing body during Lap 31. He reported this to Miss Killer, who would contemplate on using it as part of a scheme later.

Sometime after in the same year, Baba had met with Michael Chain, the leader of the Bloody Chain during Lap 37.[2] Michael had attempted to stir up Jack Levin by posing as the Shinigami, Jack's old street thug persona from years prior.[2] Baba stated that if Michael was successful in prying Jack from the Elite Mobile Task Force and handling the rest of the Task Force, Michael would be taken to meet Zoda.[2] However, Baba also stated he (himself) should not be underestimated as Zoda's informant, and that "Dark Million would be nothing without my information net."[2]

He was present during the final battle on the Dark Star, as part of Dark Million, deciding they (Baba, Octoman, Bio Rex, The Skull) should bail out of the situation during Lap 51.

2207

In the year 2207, Baba is seen along with The Skull, troubled by Zoda’s last minute entry at the new Grand Prix.

Although his other fellow Dark Million members aren't seen in person, Octoman's Deep Claw and Bio Rex's Big Fang can be seen in the lineup as well.

F-Zero GP Legend (GBA game)

Baba is a playable character with his machine, the Iron Tiger. He is not featured in the Story Mode.

F-Zero Climax

Baba (English Translation):Baba entered F-Zero with his wild instincts and extraordinary physical strength, derived from his upbringing in the wilderness of the planet Jaian. However, Zoda has taken advantage of this naive pilot, and Baba now works for him.

Note: As most Climax profiles contain elements borrowed from F-Zero GX, Baba's home planet is the same as his Mainverse counterpart. Though it is commonly localized as "Giant," it is (ジャイアン) "Jaian."

Trivia

  • The JP rendition of both universe versions of Baba's planet name, commonly localized as "Giant," is (ジャイアン) "Jaian."
    • Because the Main Universe F-Zero content contains official translations and localized names for several series elements, it is not known if the Anime Universe planet name would have also been rendered as "Giant" in English. An unofficial English patch translation for F-Zero Climax favors the use of 'Giant.'
  • Baba's F-Zero Climax bio is the only source of a backstory, as he simply appears without an introduction in the anime and doesn't receive a bio in the F-Zero GP Legend GBA game. Despite this, his backstory doesn't contradict anything from the anime.
  • Baba does not have a pilot eyecatch in the anime, along with Bio Rex.
  • Baba has two JP voice actors listed under the credits for his role. He also sounds different in Lap 3 compared to Lap 37.
  • The main universe version of Baba is known for referring to himself with both masculine and feminine pronouns, and his dialogue in F-Zero GX as well as his inflection implies that he may be homosexual. The anime version of Baba seems to lack these traits, and exclusively uses masculine pronouns.
